Gillies Organization

The Gillies is a volunteer group providing quality, professional services to the Thomas Gilcrease Institute of American History and Art.

Our name, Gillies, was taken from the term traditionally used for hunting and fishing guides in the highlands of Scotland. Today, our organization works in all aspects of museum service including gallery tours, behind the scenes assistance, garden tours, and presentations outside the museum.

We are a welcoming group of lifelong learners dedicated to serving the museum and providing interesting and rewarding experiences for our members. Our training encompasses all areas of museum needs including learning to communicate with increasingly diverse audiences, developing effective tour strategies, increasing our understanding of how adults and children best learn and appreciate the museum’s collections, expanding our knowledge of the guidelines for addressing art and artifacts of indigenous peoples and assisting the museum in its efforts to have a positive impact on the Tulsa community.
